Kelly and Kelsey suggested Esther’s High Dive in Providence, Rhode Island for their engagement photos, and I was immediately on board. The Palm Springs-inspired bar is a fairly new addition to the area, and the space is right up my alley. I love photographing people in bars and restaurants, interior spaces where a team of people have put thought and intension into design and detail. Its a ready made backdrop and photo set and it opens up so many fun options for pictures.
The whole thing felt like hanging out on a date, except I was there taking pictures. I gave Kelly and Kelsey some direction and suggested poses, but I also let them take the lead. Since Esther’s was a place they loved, I was excited to see what they had in mind, too. I love when couples bring their own ideas to a shoot, especially when we're somewhere they already feel connected to.
I know there can be a lot of ideas about where your engagement photos should happen, but I definitely never want couples to conform to should. I love wherever you love. Your home? Great. Your favorite bar? Fantastic. Somewhere you spend all your time together, or somewhere you just happen to think is cool? I'm in.
And if you don't have a place in mind, we can figure it out together. For me, a bar or restaurant with thoughtful design and an interior that really speaks to you is pretty much the perfect spot. Esther's High Dive was exactly that.
